Motorola celebrates its success in 5G, 48 years after making the world’s first portable cellular call

At Motorola, April 3rd is particularly significant. In the era of 5G, this is even more important – back in 2019, this was the day the moto z3 combined with the 5G moto modTM became the world’s first commercially available smartphone to connect to 5G network. On the same day in 1973, Motorola publicly demonstrated the world’s first portable cellular telephone and system, using a prototype of the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. From the first phone call to connecting consumers across the globe to the fastest 5G speeds1, we’ve been there every step of the way.

Over the past two years, we’ve continued our 5G innovation by introducing a number of mmWave and sub-6 5G capable devices around the world. Whether it is our motorola edge family, which delivers pure speed to the premium segment, or our more recent 5G additions like the moto g100 and moto g50 which reinforces our commitment to democratizing 5G with our most affordable 5G device yet – we recognize our role in pushing the adoption of 5G technology forward.

Today, we celebrate our success in the 5G space thus far – and our commitment to bringing the power of 5G into more consumers’ hands, no matter where they are.
