At Motorola, we’re always looking for opportunities to bring unique innovations to our consumers, like the new motorola razr ultra 40/ razr+. But regardless of how game-changing the innovation is, we also believe that it needs to serve a purpose, solve our consumers’ pain points and delight them with useful features. Here are a few of our favorite features on the new motorola razr 40 ultra/razr+.

do more without even flipping open the device
We heard from consumers that they wanted more functionality from the external display, so we equipped razr 40 ultra/razr+ with the largest, most advanced external display on a modern flip smartphone*. Not only is it larger, but it also offers expanded capabilities for productivity, gaming, entertainment and personalization.

Users can watch their favorite shows and movies, take a selfie, or get directions using the large 3.6” 144Hz external display. They can also type a quick reply with a full built-in keyboard or use the dedicated Spotify panel to switch to custom playlists, select new stations and even see recommended artists and playlists, curated just for them. Plus, they can seamlessly continue whatever activities they’re doing on the internal display, on the external display once closed.

Customization is also among the top priorities for our consumers. That’s why we’ve equipped users with the option to choose from an assortment of colorful live wallpaper designs, moto clock styles, shortcuts for easy navigation, and panels so it’s arranged just the way you like it.

content capturing just got a whole lot easier
Now more than ever we’re seeing the value consumers place on the ability to quickly capture content. So when designing the razr ultra 40/ razr+, we made content creation a priority throughout each component.

With Flex View, the possibilities are endless. The ability to stand the phone on its own at multiple angles gives consumers built-in tripod capabilities on the go, and opens up new ways to interact, capture, and create. Plus with the high-quality cameras, AI face tracking, hands free recording, and previews on the large external display, users are able to more easily produce amazing social media content.

camera experiences worth raving about
The motorola razr 40 ultra/ razr+ not only comes equipped with a powerful 12MP main camera sensor with Instant Dual Pixel PDAF for a faster, more accurate performance no matter the lighting conditions but also some brand new camera software features to match.

Thanks to the Flex View and high-quality cameras, it’s super simple to capture gorgeous selfies. With the Photo Booth feature, users can preview and capture four different poses in four perfectly timed pictures, all triggered by a simple open-palm gesture.

Users can also leverage the large external display as a mirror before taking a selfie with the high-quality cameras, which let users zoom in 3x closer than a standard lens to see every little detail.

iconic, pocketable and stylish as ever
The motorola razr – the world’s first flip smartphone – introduced engineering breakthroughs and while evolving razr’s design, we looked for areas of continuous refinement.  razr 40 ultra/ razr+ delivers the perfect balance of style and innovation and is the thinnest flippable smartphone in the industry when flipped closed, when compared to other foldables in the market. The reimagined hinge mechanism makes for a virtually creaseless, smooth, and seamless touchscreen experience when opened. Reimagine the possibilities with the new motorola razr family

As one of the first handheld devices to become a fashion statement, the motorola razr has bridged the gap between fashion and technology. Today, Motorola introduces the next generation of razr, proving once again that innovative design can redefine the smartphone experience.

Meet the 2023 motorola razr family – two devices that blend style and premium specs to deliver an innovative mobile experience. Each feature of this new family was carefully crafted to meet the needs of modern consumers chasing a balanced smartphone experience at the intersection of style-driven self expression and cutting edge technology.

motorola razr+/motorola razr 40 ultra: largest, most advanced external display1

Leading the family is the new motorola razr+/razr 40 ultra, which has a modern, ultra pocketable design – and is the thinnest flippable smartphone in the industry when flipped closed – and includes the powerful Snapdragon® 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform, efficient battery, and the largest external display of any flip phone.1

With the new razr, users are able to stand the device on its own at multiple angles thanks to Flex View technology, which offers new ways to interact, capture, and create. Users can angle the device to easily view recipes while cooking, follow an exercise coach online, video chat with friends and more. Or, use the device as a tripod and capture stunning images and videos with hands-free recording, benefitting from the high-quality cameras, AI face tracking, and previews on the large external display.

When standing on its own, users can also frame the perfect shot and capture the perfect pose using gesture capture and auto-smile capture.2 Motorola is also excited to introduce the ability for users to bring the fun of a photo booth anywhere. Thanks to Flex View and high-quality cameras, users get to showcase different poses in four perfectly timed pictures, all triggered by a simple open palm gesture so users can have confidence in great artistic shots without frantically racing to beat the timer.

In addition to opening up new possibilities for content capture, we’ve also enhanced what’s possible on the external display so users can do more with the device flipped closed. Responding to messages, getting directions, and staying up to date has never been easier thanks to unique features like:

  • Panels: Custom panels allow users to prioritize what matters most. Swipe left or right to easily access games, Google News, weather, contacts, Spotify, and view notifications at a glance. Plus, an Apps panel gives you access to almost any app, like Google Maps or Google Wallet, right from the external display.
  • Customization: Users can choose from an assortment of colorful live wallpaper designs and a range of Moto clock styles. Customize and arrange the panels on their Home screen, dragging and dropping so they’re arranged to fit the needs of every unique razr user.
  • Game: Choose from a number of highly engaging games from Motorola and GameSnacks that work perfectly on the external display. Play through mysterious lands in Golf Adventures, help a feline friend escape to freedom in Tiger Run, or find your way to the finish in Marble Mayhem.
  • Dedicated Spotify Panel: Spotify users can control playback from the device’s external display. Without unfolding the device, users can tap to continue listening where they left off or start playing something brand new. Or if they are not feeling the current mood – users can tap to switch to a new personalized recommendation.

Users can enjoy all of these features on a 3.6” pOLED external display with refresh rates up to 144Hz, so scrolling through websites is seamless. Or users can prop open their device in Flex View to watch their favorite content with the highest resolution in its class7 and in a billion shades of true-to-life color.

Versatile Camera System: ideal for content creation

The razr+/razr 40 ultra was built with content creators in mind, and packs in a powerful 12MP main camera sensor using Instant Dual Pixel PDAF for a faster, more accurate performance no matter the lighting conditions. Capture photos with beautiful soft focus backgrounds thanks to a wide f/1.5 aperture that lets in more light to deliver photos with beautiful soft focus backgrounds, and OIS eliminates unwanted shakes so photos are always crystal clear. The external display allows for users to utilize the main camera for selfies, or to give friends a preview of their poses, so everyone’s happy with the picture. Users can also flip open razr+/razr 40 ultra and use the 32MP camera for selfies and video calls, or keep their hands free by folding the phone into the ideal view for the perfect selfie. Rounding out the cameras is a 13MP ultrawide + macro vision lens that allows for wide angle shots that fit 3X more into the frame than a standard lens.

Reimagined Iconic Flip Design

With the new razr+/razr 40 ultra , Motorola gives you an iconic piece of nostalgia in a modern, infinitely flexible design. Flipped closed, the phone folds completely in half, with the top and bottom edges aligning perfectly for a gapless, ultra-sleek look. Flip it open to reveal  an ultra-smooth, gorgeous, full-sized pOLED display whenever you need it.

Motorola is excited to introduce a redesigned teardrop hinge with this new razr, comprised of the industry’s first dual-axis tracking that minimizes the size of the system. Compared to other foldables in the market, razr+/razr 40 ultra is the thinnest when flipped closed. Plus, this hinge system combined with Ultra Thin Glass makes the foldable nearly creaseless when the display unfolds, resulting in a seamless look and smooth feel.

The iconic design of the razr+/razr 40 ultra features a combination of glass frame with a matte finish or vegan leather on the back cover. Motorola is bringing bold color options to the new razr+/razr 40 ultra including the Pantone® Color of the Year 2023,3 Viva Magenta, a shade that is exclusive to Motorola devices, Infinite Black, and Glacier Blue. Powerful and empowering, Viva Magenta brings razr back to its roots with a modern feel.

Enhanced audio and powerful performance

The razr+/razr 40 ultra offers an enhanced audio experience with Dolby Atmos®. With Dolby Atmos, enjoy a richer multidimensional audio experience that brings out more depth, clarity, and details from your favorite entertainment when enjoyed over the device’s two large stereo speakers or headphones. The new Spatial Sound by Moto also makes sound feel even more immersive and fills the space around the user whether they’re listening to music or watching their favorite movie.

To fuel this powerhouse audio, razr+/razr 40 ultra is also equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which fuels all the unique features of the device, while enabling performance boosts such as advanced AI, fast refresh rates, 5G connections and the professional-quality cameras featured on this device. Motorola has also included a long-lasting battery that is larger than the previous generation, and supports ultra-fast 30W TurboPower charging4 and wireless charging.5

motorola razr 40 / motorola razr

The modern razr consumer is chasing a balanced smartphone experience, which is why Motorola is also introducing the motorola razr/razr 40. The device was made for trendsetters and tastemakers who like to stand out in a crowd, but also for digital minimalists who want to disconnect and take back control of their device.

The razr/razr 40 features the same incredibly smooth and vivid internal display, teardrop hinge and iconic form factor as the razr+/razr 40 ultra. While the most noticeable difference of the new razr/razr 40 is a smaller external display, it maintains all the features expected from a high end smartphone.

The new razr/razr 40 comes with a distinct and stylish look, combining Gorilla Glass and a premium vegan leather. It’s easy to grip, soft to the touch and comes with trendy colors selected in partnership with Pantone, such as: the Sage Green,  a contemporary green tone, Vanilla Cream, a true off white classic and Summer Lilac, which is a mystical purple shade.

motorola razr/razr 40 also features the highest resolution sensors on any of our foldable devices for both front and rear camera systems. Capture crystal-clear photos and selfies in any light with a 64 MP main camera and OIS, or take everything from breathtaking wide-angle shots to extreme close-ups with a 13MP Ultrawide + Macro Vision lens. Plus, use the 32 MP front camera for high-quality video calls.

Motorola’s unique software experience
Both new razr devices run on Android 13 and come with unique Motorola experiences including: simple gestures, custom entertainment settings and/or ability to personalize according to each user’s style. everything you can do on razr’s Quick View display

Motorola is innovating once again and bringing to the market a re-invention of the iconic flippable cell phone: RAZR. At the time, the original razr had an external display to show the time and other information at a glance. Today, consumers are starting to recognize the need to disconnect, but they still want to have the most important information at their fingertips when it’s necessary. That´s why our engineering & user experience teams developed a totally new smartphone display for the new razr that adds interactivity, allowing you to actually respond to notifications and control some phone features even while it´s closed.

Motorola razr features a 2.7-inch OLED interactive Quick View front display, a touch screen that helps you tackle notifications without constantly opening your phone. Like the original razr, the Quick View display has information at a glance when the phone is closed, but it also lets you interact in completely new ways.

1. see, respond and move onThe Quick View display easily lets you see all of your notifications without opening the phone thanks to Peek Display, part of our exclusive Moto Experiences. Peek Display gives you a quick preview of notifications and updates, but also lets you open them to see more, or dismiss them. You can even reply to text messages and emails directly on the Quick View display with a smart reply or by dictating a voice reply. You can also take calls when the phone is closed and use the main camera to make video calls, all without having to open the phone.

2. pay and be on your wayrazr comes equipped with NFC technology, which allows you to authorize mobile payments using Google Pay on the go. You can use the Quick View display to easily pay with a tap in just seconds, so you ll never hold up the line at check out.

3. rock out to your favorite songs You can listen to music and get easy access to control media playback from the Quick View display while the phone is closed. Now when you want to change a song, you don´t have to go into your phone and fumble with the controls. All you have to do is swipe up on the media player icon to play, pause, or toggle between tracks. You can also enable Moto Actions to let you use the volume keys to change tracks while the screen is off.

4. snap the perfect shot We´ve made sure razr´s compact design doesn´t stop you from taking amazing photos. When razr is closed, you can use the phone´s main camera to capture high-quality selfies. When you want to take a selfie, simply twist your wrist twice to open the camera using the Twist to Capture, part of exclusive Moto Actions. Then you can snap a photo with just your smile thanks to Auto Smile Capture, or use the volume keys as shutter buttons.

And there´s a brand new way to take selfies on razr: Gesture Selfie. When you show the camera an open palm, it triggers a two-second countdown timer before taking a shot automatically. The Quick View display also comes in handy when you re taking photos with the phone open. When you set a timer on the internal display, a countdown will also appear on the external display to let your subject know it´s time to pose. And after capturing a photo on the internal display, the external display can show a preview for your subject to review to make sure it´s just right.

You can also set the Quick View Display to play a fun animation to get your subject´s attention when taking a photo to help with photographing young kids or even pets.

5. get help from Google Assistant The Quick View display was designed to work with Google Assistant, so you can get the information you need with voice control. You can talk to Google Assistant any time, even when the phone is closed and locked. Just say “Ok Google” to start giving voice commands or asking questions to use your digital assistant to the fullest.

6. seamless transitions in an instant The Quick View and Flex View displays are made to work together to create an incredibly intuitive user experience. Whenever you need more information or want a bigger view, a simple flip is all it takes. Whatever you see on Quick View magically moves to the larger Flex View display the moment you flip open the device.

Today, we’re offering a peek into the top five things you need to know about the new razr.

it’s all in the hinge

The new razr simply would not have been possible without our patented hinge design. flip phones of the past used the hinge as a visible element in the middle of the device. A modern smartphone has a full-length touchscreen, so folding it in half requires the hinge to be hidden behind the display. We also wanted both sides of the phone to fold completely flush with no gap, in order to make the device more compact and to protect the display. The razr hinge enables this and plays an important part both functionally and aesthetically. We began the process with four versions of the hinge, looking for the one that was assistive, reliable, durable, and offered the correct amount of retention. In an engineering breakthrough, we’ve developed an IP patented-protected “zero-gap” articulating hinge that checked all of the boxes. The new hinge moves mechanical elements to either edge, allowing the display to curve in a bell shape when the device is closed. This relaxed angle prevents creasing in the Flex View display. As a result, razr’s screen folds perfectly in half, protecting the display and creating an ultra-compact design.

hang up in a snap The new razr finally brings back that satisfying feeling of hanging up your phone by flipping it closed. Thanks to the smooth tension of the hinge and the sturdiness of the screen, you can feel confident snapping the phone shut when you’re done with a call. We heard so many stories about the emotional connection people felt with the original RAZR, which is why it was important to us to bring this experience back. But we also wanted to make sure the device met modern expectations for smartphones. For that reason, we’ve also included an option to toggle this feature on and off. Razr will also stay connected to a call when flipped closed if you are using a Bluetooth headset or the speakerphone.

the Flex View display razr has a screen like no other foldable phone on the market — a full-length touchscreen that folds perfectly in half, collapsing the razr down to a perfectly pocketable size. The 6.2” screen maximizes the viewing area when you flip open, but still allows for the device to be portable when closed. Simply unfold razr to immerse yourself in content on the OLED display with a 21:9 CinemaVision aspect ratio. Our screen feels firm and sturdy when the device is open thanks to moveable metal support plates that pull the display tight. As the razr closes, the support plates move out of the way to allow the display to rest in a more relaxed shape. The clamshell form factor itself also adds extra protection to your flexible display — since the Flex View display folds completely in half, it is protected from damage when razr is closed. The Flex View display also has its own protective coating to withstand scratches and scuffs from everyday wear and tear.

the Quick View display Sometimes consumers want to disconnect for a while, or take a break from the distractions of their phones. That’s why our engineering team developed a totally new smartphone display for razr that lets your interact with notifications and tackle tasks in completely new ways — all without having to open the phone. razr features a 2.7-inch OLED Quick View display on the outside of the device, an interactive touch screen that puts all the most important information and useful actions at your fingertips. The Quick View display lets you easily see all of your notifications, authorize mobile payments, control media playback, use Google Assistant, and respond to texts, emails and calls without ever having to open your device.

When razr is closed, you can use the phone’s main camera with the Quick View display to capture high-quality selfies and make video calls. The Quick View display also comes in handy when you’re taking photos while the phone is open. When you set a timer on the internal display, a countdown will appear on the external display to let your subject know it’s time to pose. And after capturing a photo on the internal display, the external display can show a preview for your subject to review. You can also set the Quick View Display to play a fun animation to get your subject’s attention when taking a photo to help with photographing young kids or even pets.

When you’re looking for more information or just want a bigger view, a simple flip is all it takes. Seamless app continuity ensures that whatever you see on the Quick View display to magically moves to the larger Flex View display the moment you flip open.

new razr: reinvention of an icon

Motorola unveils an evolution of the flippable cell phone that marked a generation: RAZR, a fashion icon that defined a part of pop culture. The new motorola razr is the first-ever clamshell-style flexible display smartphone that, impossibly, folds completely, bringing an instantly familiar yet totally unique, mobile consumer experience.

We set out to understand how flexible screens could improve the way people use their smartphones. So, Motorola developed and tested over 20 different prototypes during initial consumer research phases. As it turns out, the clamshell design we all know and love was the perfect solution. It addresses a real consumer pain point, portability, without compromising the big screen experience consumers highly value.

Motorola razr brings style and craftsmanship to smartphones in a new way. Constructed utilizing premium stainless steel and 3D Gorilla GlassTM, the outer shell is protective yet premium in-hand. Like the original RAZR, the new motorola razr is slim and sleek, avoiding stark contrast in colors and materials so as to not detract from the seamless design.

During the development of razr, when the limitations of available technology stood in our way, we created our own path. We architected an industry first, patent-protected zero-gap hinge that allows both sides of the customized polymer flexible display system to remain perfectly flush when closed and protects the display from debris and dust; we re-engineered antennas to fit in a space twice as small as today’s smartphones; and coated the device to offer water resistance and splash-proof protection1. With this breakthrough engineering approach and design we’re ushering in the next stage of mobility.

As smartphones get bigger and bigger, razr’s going compact. When you need a more immersive experience, the 6.2-inch Flex View display with 21:9 aspect ratio offers the functionality you’re used to. When it’s time to go, simply flip razr shut and enjoy its sleek, portable design that makes it the perfect size to slip in your pocket.

On razr’s external 2.7-inch interactive Quick View display, you can connect with important information on the go, making it easy to stay connected while remaining present in the moment. You can make calls, reply to messages, pay with a tap, control your music, take stunning selfies, use Google Assistant™ and access customized settings, like turning on or off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi , your Hotspot and more, all without ever opening your phone.

Enjoy a totally new and unique smartphone experience that you simply can’t get anywhere else. The iconic brand, breakthrough technology and stylish design make razr the upgraded smartphone experience you need. Motorola razr is the smartphone that finally brings back that satisfying feeling of hanging up your phone by flipping it closed once again.
