everything you can do on razr’s Quick View display

Motorola is innovating once again and bringing to the market a re-invention of the iconic flippable cell phone: RAZR. At the time, the original razr had an external display to show the time and other information at a glance. Today, consumers are starting to recognize the need to disconnect, but they still want to have the most important information at their fingertips when it’s necessary. That´s why our engineering & user experience teams developed a totally new smartphone display for the new razr that adds interactivity, allowing you to actually respond to notifications and control some phone features even while it´s closed.

Motorola razr features a 2.7-inch OLED interactive Quick View front display, a touch screen that helps you tackle notifications without constantly opening your phone. Like the original razr, the Quick View display has information at a glance when the phone is closed, but it also lets you interact in completely new ways.

1. see, respond and move onThe Quick View display easily lets you see all of your notifications without opening the phone thanks to Peek Display, part of our exclusive Moto Experiences. Peek Display gives you a quick preview of notifications and updates, but also lets you open them to see more, or dismiss them. You can even reply to text messages and emails directly on the Quick View display with a smart reply or by dictating a voice reply. You can also take calls when the phone is closed and use the main camera to make video calls, all without having to open the phone.

2. pay and be on your wayrazr comes equipped with NFC technology, which allows you to authorize mobile payments using Google Pay on the go. You can use the Quick View display to easily pay with a tap in just seconds, so you ll never hold up the line at check out.

3. rock out to your favorite songs You can listen to music and get easy access to control media playback from the Quick View display while the phone is closed. Now when you want to change a song, you don´t have to go into your phone and fumble with the controls. All you have to do is swipe up on the media player icon to play, pause, or toggle between tracks. You can also enable Moto Actions to let you use the volume keys to change tracks while the screen is off.

4. snap the perfect shot We´ve made sure razr´s compact design doesn´t stop you from taking amazing photos. When razr is closed, you can use the phone´s main camera to capture high-quality selfies. When you want to take a selfie, simply twist your wrist twice to open the camera using the Twist to Capture, part of exclusive Moto Actions. Then you can snap a photo with just your smile thanks to Auto Smile Capture, or use the volume keys as shutter buttons.

And there´s a brand new way to take selfies on razr: Gesture Selfie. When you show the camera an open palm, it triggers a two-second countdown timer before taking a shot automatically. The Quick View display also comes in handy when you re taking photos with the phone open. When you set a timer on the internal display, a countdown will also appear on the external display to let your subject know it´s time to pose. And after capturing a photo on the internal display, the external display can show a preview for your subject to review to make sure it´s just right.

You can also set the Quick View Display to play a fun animation to get your subject´s attention when taking a photo to help with photographing young kids or even pets.

5. get help from Google Assistant The Quick View display was designed to work with Google Assistant, so you can get the information you need with voice control. You can talk to Google Assistant any time, even when the phone is closed and locked. Just say “Ok Google” to start giving voice commands or asking questions to use your digital assistant to the fullest.

6. seamless transitions in an instant The Quick View and Flex View displays are made to work together to create an incredibly intuitive user experience. Whenever you need more information or want a bigger view, a simple flip is all it takes. Whatever you see on Quick View magically moves to the larger Flex View display the moment you flip open the device.

five things to know about the new motorola razr

Innovation is part of Motorola’s DNA. That’s why we reinvented the razr as a modern smartphone that folds completely. But we also believe that every innovation should serve a practical purpose for consumers. The new razr is packed with new features and functionality that take advantage of the unique form factor. From top to bottom and inside to outside, the new razr is impressively engineered and full of surprises we know you’ll love. Today, we’re offering a peek into the top five things you need to know about the new razr.

it’s all in the hinge

The new razr simply would not have been possible without our patented hinge design. flip phones of the past used the hinge as a visible element in the middle of the device. A modern smartphone has a full-length touchscreen, so folding it in half requires the hinge to be hidden behind the display. We also wanted both sides of the phone to fold completely flush with no gap, in order to make the device more compact and to protect the display. The razr hinge enables this and plays an important part both functionally and aesthetically. We began the process with four versions of the hinge, looking for the one that was assistive, reliable, durable, and offered the correct amount of retention. In an engineering breakthrough, we’ve developed an IP patented-protected “zero-gap” articulating hinge that checked all of the boxes. The new hinge moves mechanical elements to either edge, allowing the display to curve in a bell shape when the device is closed. This relaxed angle prevents creasing in the Flex View display. As a result, razr’s screen folds perfectly in half, protecting the display and creating an ultra-compact design.

hang up in a snap The new razr finally brings back that satisfying feeling of hanging up your phone by flipping it closed. Thanks to the smooth tension of the hinge and the sturdiness of the screen, you can feel confident snapping the phone shut when you’re done with a call. We heard so many stories about the emotional connection people felt with the original RAZR, which is why it was important to us to bring this experience back. But we also wanted to make sure the device met modern expectations for smartphones. For that reason, we’ve also included an option to toggle this feature on and off. Razr will also stay connected to a call when flipped closed if you are using a Bluetooth headset or the speakerphone.

the Flex View display razr has a screen like no other foldable phone on the market — a full-length touchscreen that folds perfectly in half, collapsing the razr down to a perfectly pocketable size. The 6.2” screen maximizes the viewing area when you flip open, but still allows for the device to be portable when closed. Simply unfold razr to immerse yourself in content on the OLED display with a 21:9 CinemaVision aspect ratio. Our screen feels firm and sturdy when the device is open thanks to moveable metal support plates that pull the display tight. As the razr closes, the support plates move out of the way to allow the display to rest in a more relaxed shape. The clamshell form factor itself also adds extra protection to your flexible display — since the Flex View display folds completely in half, it is protected from damage when razr is closed. The Flex View display also has its own protective coating to withstand scratches and scuffs from everyday wear and tear.

the Quick View display Sometimes consumers want to disconnect for a while, or take a break from the distractions of their phones. That’s why our engineering team developed a totally new smartphone display for razr that lets your interact with notifications and tackle tasks in completely new ways — all without having to open the phone. razr features a 2.7-inch OLED Quick View display on the outside of the device, an interactive touch screen that puts all the most important information and useful actions at your fingertips. The Quick View display lets you easily see all of your notifications, authorize mobile payments, control media playback, use Google Assistant, and respond to texts, emails and calls without ever having to open your device.

When razr is closed, you can use the phone’s main camera with the Quick View display to capture high-quality selfies and make video calls. The Quick View display also comes in handy when you’re taking photos while the phone is open. When you set a timer on the internal display, a countdown will appear on the external display to let your subject know it’s time to pose. And after capturing a photo on the internal display, the external display can show a preview for your subject to review. You can also set the Quick View Display to play a fun animation to get your subject’s attention when taking a photo to help with photographing young kids or even pets.

When you’re looking for more information or just want a bigger view, a simple flip is all it takes. Seamless app continuity ensures that whatever you see on the Quick View display to magically moves to the larger Flex View display the moment you flip open.

enjoy exclusive Moto Actions
Our philosophy with software is to only make changes where it’s additive, never duplicative. That’s why we never put duplicate apps or clunky software skins on our phones. Instead, we’ve focused on the intuitive Moto Experiences that you’ve come to love from Motorola. We brought made sure to bring Moto Actions to the razr, providing quick access to the helpful features that consumers use most. When you want to take a selfie, just twist your wrist twice to open the camera. If you need your flashlight fast, simply make a chopping motion twice to turn it on. To quickly silence a notification, whether you’re at dinner or in a meeting, place the phone face down to turn on “Do Not Disturb” mode. There are plenty of other Moto Actions to discover, all of which streamline your mobile life and make getting things done on razr a little bit easier.

new razr: reinvention of an icon

Motorola unveils an evolution of the flippable cell phone that marked a generation: RAZR, a fashion icon that defined a part of pop culture. The new motorola razr is the first-ever clamshell-style flexible display smartphone that, impossibly, folds completely, bringing an instantly familiar yet totally unique, mobile consumer experience.

We set out to understand how flexible screens could improve the way people use their smartphones. So, Motorola developed and tested over 20 different prototypes during initial consumer research phases. As it turns out, the clamshell design we all know and love was the perfect solution. It addresses a real consumer pain point, portability, without compromising the big screen experience consumers highly value.

Motorola razr brings style and craftsmanship to smartphones in a new way. Constructed utilizing premium stainless steel and 3D Gorilla GlassTM, the outer shell is protective yet premium in-hand. Like the original RAZR, the new motorola razr is slim and sleek, avoiding stark contrast in colors and materials so as to not detract from the seamless design.

During the development of razr, when the limitations of available technology stood in our way, we created our own path. We architected an industry first, patent-protected zero-gap hinge that allows both sides of the customized polymer flexible display system to remain perfectly flush when closed and protects the display from debris and dust; we re-engineered antennas to fit in a space twice as small as today’s smartphones; and coated the device to offer water resistance and splash-proof protection1. With this breakthrough engineering approach and design we’re ushering in the next stage of mobility.

As smartphones get bigger and bigger, razr’s going compact. When you need a more immersive experience, the 6.2-inch Flex View display with 21:9 aspect ratio offers the functionality you’re used to. When it’s time to go, simply flip razr shut and enjoy its sleek, portable design that makes it the perfect size to slip in your pocket.

On razr’s external 2.7-inch interactive Quick View display, you can connect with important information on the go, making it easy to stay connected while remaining present in the moment. You can make calls, reply to messages, pay with a tap, control your music, take stunning selfies, use Google Assistant™ and access customized settings, like turning on or off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi , your Hotspot and more, all without ever opening your phone.

Enjoy a totally new and unique smartphone experience that you simply can’t get anywhere else. The iconic brand, breakthrough technology and stylish design make razr the upgraded smartphone experience you need. Motorola razr is the smartphone that finally brings back that satisfying feeling of hanging up your phone by flipping it closed once again.
