Motorola unveils moto tag: a tracking solution designed to work anytime, anywhere

The newest addition to Motorola’s ecosystem combines precision tracking technology and privacy safeguards from Google for a new tracking solution

Today, Motorola, introduces moto tag, a Bluetooth tag designed to keep track of consumers’ most valuable items anywhere in the world¹. Sleek, with enhanced security, easy to use, and compatible with most Android smartphones¹, the moto tag leverages the power of the Google Find My Device network and UWB technology4 to bring consumers a new tracking solution that seamlessly integrates into Motorola’s device ecosystem.

motorola ecosystem 2024 with moto tag

From keys and wallets to luggage, moto tag allows users to find the whereabouts of their tagged items so they have more peace of mind. The moto tag was specifically built to work seamlessly with the expansive reach of Google’s Find My Device network, allowing users to pinpoint the exact location of tagged items through the Find My Device app from nearly anywhere in the world.1 When paired with an Ultra Wideband supported Android smartphone, like the motorola edge 50 ultra, the moto tag also offers improved precision tracking⁴.

Moto tag also features a dedicated multifunctional button. A simple press rings the user’s smartphone helping them easily find a misplaced device. Another useful function is the ability to use the tag as a remote to capture photos on a Motorola phone, making it easy to get the perfect shot without needing to hold the phone or use a timer. This feature works with any Android phone and is particularly useful when snapping photos with the new motorola razr family in flex view.¹

Privacy is top of mind with the moto tag. That’s why it works with the secure by default and private by design Find My Device network. User location data is end-to-end encrypted, which means only the tag owner or anyone whose owner has shared the tag within the Find My Device app can view the tag’s location. Leaning on Google’s expertise in privacy and security, the moto tag is also compatible with automatic unknown tracker alerts across Android and iOS to help keep users safe from unwanted tracking. Users also have the option of running a manual scan at any time to check for any unwanted tags following them.

“Find My Device is a truly unique experience for Android users thanks to our open ecosystem that gives people the freedom of choice and a crowdsourced network of over a billion devices to help find your lost or misplaced items and devices no matter where they are,” said Erik Kay, Vice President of Engineering at Google. “We are proud to work with partners to help make finding your belongings simple and seamless on Android.”

For a seamless setup experience, once a new moto tag is powered on and near the user’s smartphone, it’s simple to quickly pair the tag to their device using Google Fast Pair. From there, users can take advantage of several customizable options available in the moto tag app including changing tag names, adjusting alert volumes, checking battery life and more.

Moto tag’s sleek silhouette was designed specifically to fit perfectly with most third-party accessories already on the market so that users can easily attach it to all their valuables. Plus, its robust IP67 design helps ensure durability against dust, dirt, and fresh water immersion up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes³, making it suitable for any adventure or daily commute. Users can also have peace of mind knowing that the moto tag’s CR2032 battery is engineered to last an entire year on a single charge² and is easily replaceable, making it a reliable and durable tracking solution.

The moto tag will be available in the coming months in select markets. For more information on local availability, please reach out to your local PR representative.

Motorola brings new AI-driven experiences to the 2024 razr family with Google

Imagine a world where your smartphone isn’t just a device, but a personal assistant, creative studio, and productivity powerhouse all in one. By collaborating with Google, Motorola has turned this vision a reality by bringing AI-driven experiences and convenient features to the new razr family

For the first time, razr users can access Gemini¹ directly from the external display. Google’s Gemini app is a personal AI assistant to supercharge your creativity and productivity. Whether users need step-by-step instructions for a new project, help planning trips and activities, or assistance in writing thank-you notes or emails. Gemini can even help brainstorm ideas for enhancing daily life and seamlessly access information from Google apps and services like Maps, YouTube, Flights, Gmail, and Drive. Gemini is always there to provide support.

Plus, razr users will receive Gemini Advanced for 3 months with access to Google’s most capable AI models, at no extra cost. They’ll also get 2 TB of cloud storage and Gemini in their favorite Google apps like Gmail, Docs, and more—all included in the Google One AI Premium plan.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to bring the helpfulness of Gemini to Motorola’s new phones,” said Amar Subramanya, vice president of engineering at Google. “By integrating Gemini into the new Razr devices, we’re giving people direct access to their very own personal AI assistant – there to tackle complex tasks and collaborate on the go.”

Users can reimagine daily tasks – like texting – with a few unique features that are built into Google Messages. Photomoji transforms their favorite photos into personalized emojis and stickers, adding a visual flair to messages. And with Magic Compose², users can receive suggested texting responses in various styles like Excited, Chill, Formal, and Short, enabling them to get creative with their messages.

“Innovation has always been at the core of Motorola’s DNA, and our collaboration with Google marks a significant milestone in redefining what a smartphone can truly be,” said Dan Dery, Head of Software Experiences & Internet Services at Motorola. “With the new razr family, we’re not just introducing a device; we’re unveiling a new era of seamless connectivity and unparalleled functionality where technology not only enhances but also enriches every aspect of our lives.”

To further improve the external display experience on the new razr devices, we’ve added access to Google Photos. This allows users to view, delete, favorite, or share photos or videos stored locally or in the cloud without opening their phone, making it easier to access memories and find photos quickly. Google Photos will soon offer Ask Photos, a new way to search photos with Gemini. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months.

When it’s time to edit these photos, users can open the new razr and use the latest AI-powered editing tools in Google Photos including Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and more.

Motorola and Google’s partnership also introduces moto ai features enabled by Google Cloud, such as Moto Magic Canvas. This innovative tool lets users create stunning images by simply describing them with text prompts, turning imagination into reality. Users can also take advantage of features like Style Sync for an added layer of customization. Style Sync creates personalized device wallpaper options when a user uploads a photo of a pattern from their outfit or surroundings.

Beyond AI, Motorola and Google have also partnered to bring razr and Android users alike, a more precise, convenient way to track their valuables. Expanding the Motorola ecosystem, the new moto tag is Ultra Wideband compatible⁴ and helps users locate everyday items like keys, wallets, and luggage via Google’s Find My Device network.³

  • New colors, materials, and reimagined Hello UX software elevate the razr user experience
  • Embrace day-to-night with powerful performance and long battery life
  • The Motorola device ecosystem expands with the new moto tag

Twenty years after the groundbreaking launch of the RAZR V3, Motorola continues to maintain its iconic essence and expand the boundaries of smartphone technology with each new iteration of the razr. The new 2024 motorola razr family is no exception, showcasing Motorola’s commitment to evolution and excellence. With the new motorola razr 50 ultra/motorola razr+ and motorola razr 50/motorola razr, we are introducing two stylish pocket-sized smartphones that bring the power of AI to more users’ hands.

Do it all with the largest, most intelligent external display in its class1

Both members of the new razr family feature massive external displays with the motorola razr 50 ultra/motorola razr+ boasting the industry’s largest at 4.0,” and the motorola razr 50/motorola razr bringing a 3.6” display. Even more, for the first time, razr users will be able to access Google’s Gemini app2 directly from their external display. Easily press and hold the power button to bring up Gemini, and get help building a road trip itinerary with popular sights and activities, creating a personalized workout routine in a matter of seconds, getting recipes based on what’s in the refrigerator, and much more.

Also new to the external display is access to Google Photos, giving users the ability to share, view, delete, or favorite images and videos instantly. This is in addition to a dedicated Spotify panel that allows users to skip songs, and a Bose panel that allows you to more easily control your Bose earbuds and headphones.

When ready for a new look, Motorola is offering a new suite of clock faces and fun customization options for the external display. Users can change their Desk Display to feature a rotation of text and images they’re into that day, creating their own modern screensaver. Or they can shake it up with moto ai experiences. This includes Style Sync, which develops wallpaper options based on one’s outfit, and Magic Canvas, which generates a stunning image based on a text prompt.

Design choices that are bold, beautiful and undeniably razr

The new razr devices feature bold colors, soft vegan leather finishes, and contoured edges that look as good as they feel in hand. With the motorola razr 50 ultra/motorola razr+, consumers can pick between Midnight Blue, Spring Green, and Pantone™ Color of the Year 2024, Peach Fuzz. Plus, the iconic Hot Pink3 razr is back, giving consumers their daily dose of feel-good “newstalgia.”

Infusing color on the front and back of the device, the motorola razr 50/motorola razr features shades of Beach Sand, Koala Grey, and Spritz Orange in vegan leather.

The devices are also adventure-proof. Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus helps protect the external display from drops and scratches, underwater protection allows the device to withstand submersion in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes4, and the simplified hinge offers better dust protection.

Thanks to the revamped hinge, it’s also easier to flick open or snap the device shut with one hand. This makes the razr ideal for dramatic hang ups or switching to the massive 6.9” pOLED display. A wide range of Flex View positions empowers users to snap their outfit of the day with the hands-free capture or record a beautiful skyline in shake-free camcorder mode that’s optimized for social media. For impromptu photoshoots, Photo Booth is now available on the external and internal cameras, stitching together four photos in a ready-to-share collage.

This allows consumers to discover what’s possible with AI through accelerated performance, unparalleled connectivity, fast-paced gameplay, and even better content capture.

When texting friends, consumers can utilize new features that amplify their conversations. Built into Google Messages, these enhancements include: Magic Compose5, which suggests texting responses in a variety of styles, so consumers can express themselves in new, creative ways, and Photomoji, which gives consumers the option to turn their favorite photos into personalized emoji or stickers.

A device ecosystem that’s all about connection

With the new motorola razr family, Motorola is expanding the Moto ecosystem. In addition to the recently launched moto buds, Motorola is introducing moto tag –  a small, accessory-friendly Bluetooth® LE tag with Ultra Wideband8 that helps consumers locate their most valuable possessions, from their wallet to luggage, through Google’s Find My Device network9.

Smart software that does all the thinking

Motorola’s distinctive software platform, Hello UX, offers an extensively personalized user experience, immersive capabilities, and an intuitive user interface. In addition to now offering more customizable options on the razr family external display, users will continue to enjoy advanced ecosystem connectivity with Smart Connect, a safe environment for kids with Family Space, the ability to disconnect with Moto Unplugged, and comprehensive security settings with Moto Secure.

moto ai also enhances the smartphone experience by addressing user pain points with innovative generative AI solutions. In the coming months, Motorola will introduce several new moto ai capabilities:

  • With a simple prompt of “Catch me up,” users will receive a prioritized summary of personal communications, eliminating the need to sift through notifications.
  • Asking “Pay attention” will enable instant recording of conversations or speakers, automatically transcribing and summarizing them.
  • A command to “Remember this” will capture live moments or on-screen information, saving them automatically with AI-generated details. Information will be stored on the user’s device for easy recall later.

Additionally, users will be able to access moto ai anywhere on their phone for assistance, quick suggestions, and answers to questions, including device usage guidance or more complex inquiries using Gemini from Google Cloud.

Experience Seamless Connectivity with Smart Connect

Earlier this year, Lenovo and Motorola introduced Smart Connect, a software solution that unifies digital ecosystems to create a multi-device experience. Smart Connect was made for all consumers, eliminating disruptions when transitioning between compatible devices by seamlessly connecting core devices like phones, tablets, and PCs. Consumers can effortlessly switch tasks and maintain an uninterrupted workflow on their existing compatible devices1 to meet their specific needs.

Smart Connect offers experiences such as:

  • Cross control: Navigate between your compatible PC, tablet, and phone using a single keyboard and mouse, ensuring smooth cursor movement for a seamless control experience. This creates a streamlined experience across your device ecosystem, giving you the power to edit a document on your Lenovo PC, pull in content from your tablet and meet with your colleagues via smartphone at the same time.1

  • Swipe to stream: Transition app activities across devices with a simple swipe. Watch a video on a tablet and pick up where you left off on your PC, or listen to a podcast on your Motorola smartphone while jogging and continue listening on another device back at home. With just one swipe, you can maintain continuous playback without interruptions.1

  • Notification sync: Stay up to date with messages and notifications across all devices without having to switch between them or interrupt your flow.1
  • Share hub: Effortlessly share files and media across compatible devices operating on Windows and Android, to streamline tasks such as making travel plans or capturing research notes. With Share hub, students and creators have the ability to access and share large files across connected devices without taking up tons of storage. Whether it’s editing the latest viral TikTok dance on your PC or sharing group project files, Share Hub makes this process simple and storage efficient.1

  • Smart clipboard: Eliminate the need to email or use a messaging service to copy images to another device by copying and pasting text or images across compatible phones, PCs, or tablets as if working on a single device.1

  • Instant hotspot: Transform your phone into a hotspot with 5G for instantaneous and protected internet connectivity for your tablet or PC without the hassle of password entry.
  • Webcam: Take advantage of high-resolution cameras and turn your smartphone into a webcam for video calls or livestreams, enhancing remote work presence. Users can also maximize video calls from their phone by moving them to a compatible big screen TV.2
  • More space to work and play: Amplify everything a Motorola device is capable of. With just your phone, you can stream videos, play games or launch a mobile desktop on a compatible smart TV.2

Motorola expands Indigenous languages support with addition of Ladin

Motorola and the Lenovo Foundation are committed to inclusion and smarter technology for all, and today we reaffirm this dedication with the expansion of our Indigenous Languages Support Initiative. As part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness and empower Indigenous communities, Motorola is proud to announce the addition of Ladin, a minority language spoken in Italy’s Dolomites region (South of Tyrol), to the list of over 90 languages supported in our smartphones.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) estimates that one Indigenous language disappears every two weeks, resulting in the potential loss of around 3,000 unique languages by the end of the century. That’s why over the past three years, Motorola has been at the forefront of this mission, championing the revitalization of endangered languages across the globe.

With a focus on Europe for our latest phase of the Indigenous Languages Support Initiative, Motorola conducted extensive research to identify minority and endangered languages needing support. Among the languages considered, Ladin became a significant candidate, being one of the 12 officially recognized minority languages in Italy and one of three without a kinstate, or entity that is close to the region where their kin-groups reside. With only 30,000 speakers, UNESCO classifies Ladin as an endangered language.

“We’ve learned over the past few years that it is imperative that we work closely with the community of speakers and scholars that are passionate and committed to saving and promoting the language,” said Janine Oliveira, Executive Director of Software Globalization, Motorola. “This rang true for the Ladin community and made the decision to digitize the language in our devices easy.”

Ladin MotorolaMotorola worked alongside the Lenovo Foundation, and several translators and reviewers from the Ladin Institute, Micurá de Rü, led by Professor Paul Videsott, Professor for Romance Philology at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (UNIBZ). “This will definitely help Ladin and other minority languages to be more visible,” said Professor Videsott. “Smartphones are like the pencil of the 21st century, and having minority languages, including Ladin, in the motorola edge 50 series, has the same importance of having a language in a book.”

Hello Indigenous whitepaper

At Motorola, we know indigenous populations are interacting with mobile technology and are one of many diverse groups that make up our valued consumer base. It’s why we started the project, as we aim to preserve human heritage and the unique histories of Indigenous cultures while empowering future generations. But we also believe we have a responsibility to inspire others to do the same. Through June 2024, Motorola has open-sourced over 1 million translated indigenous words, allowing other companies to promote these languages through their interfaces, furthering revitalization efforts worldwide.

Today, we’re also excited to share the latest version of our Hello Indigenous whitepaper written in partnership with Lenovo Foundation and UNESCO, serving as a blueprint for others to follow in their footsteps.

Ladin is the latest of several endangered languages that Motorola has added to its smartphone interface, including Kuvi and Kangri (spoken in regions of India), Cherokee (spoken in the United States), Kaingang (spoken in Brazil) and Nheengatu (spoken in the Amazon). Motorola remains committed to our mission of inclusion and cultural preservation, leveraging technology to bridge linguistic divides and foster a more diverse and interconnected world. To access the full data sets for each of our digitized endangered Indigenous languages, please visit: https://www.motorola.com/us/about/endangered-indigenous-languages-data-set
